As we all know, every great house begins with a firm foundation and a good frame. Building a bright future requires the same things, too.
Phi Kappa Phi’s foundation is its rich history of advancing minds over more than 125 years. To extend that legacy for another century and beyond, the Society’s leadership and staff are developing a vision for the next generation of scholars with a new strategic plan.
Work on the plan is ongoing but the frame of what we envision is already coming into place. We’re calling our outline Phi Kappa Phi’s Strategic Directions and it’s the result of feedback from many stakeholders over the past year and a half. Put simply, we’re renewing our focus on what Phi Kappa Phi does best and making clear our priorities for how we’ll spend our time, talents, and treasure.
Setting such priorities and underlining our mission is especially important in a world touched by so much change. We want to harness that change as Phi Kappa Phi has always done, using it as an engine of progress. But seasons of change also call us to reconnect with the timeless principles that have always steered Phi Kappa Phi.
Where’s Phi Kappa Phi going in the 21st century?
Let’s start with our mission: We are a community that celebrates and advances the love of learning. In many ways, we’re affirming our commitment to our Society’s motto, Let the Love of Learning Rule Humanity. We heard the importance of advancing the love of learning loud and clear from our many members who provided feedback this past year. We also recognize that learning works best when we learn from each other. Our strength is in the community of great minds we gather – some 100,000 active members around the world.
Our vision is bold: A better world driven by learning. It’s a way of looking at life that goes back to our founding in 1897, and it’s as relevant today as ever. All of the challenges and opportunities of our century will demand society’s best thinking. As a wellspring of scholarship and research, Phi Kappa Phi can continue to be a game-changer.
Meanwhile, Phi Kappa Phi’s enduring principles summon us to lead by example.
Our core values?
Excellence. We strive to be the best in all that we do.
Community. We have a commitment to the love of learning that connects us in advancing, serving, and supporting education.
Service. We serve our mission, our communities, and our world through all of our programs.
Inclusivity. We ensure access and opportunities to all scholars and artists who demonstrate excellence and a love of learning.
Taking stock of your purpose and potential can be an energizing experience. That has certainly been the case as Phi Kappa Phi’s National Board of Directors and staff continue to engage with our members and stakeholders in creating our strategic plan.
