As spring arrived this year, we arranged to repaint the outside of Phi Kappa Phi’s national office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a necessary task to keep the Society’s property maintained. We take seriously the resources made possible by Phi Kappa Phi’s members and donors. My most basic obligation in leading our national office involves appreciating and caring for what we already have. It’s why seemingly simple things like maintenance chores are important for us at the national office, just as they are for those of us who are homeowners. We want to make sure that Phi Kappa Phi’s material gifts are preserved for future generations.
Our community neighbors mentioned how pleased they were to see our office exterior freshly brightened just in time for spring. Some local residents said it inspired them to undertake some of their own sprucing up where they live and work.
Through its many decades of existence, Phi Kappa Phi has been a beacon of excellence for others. I’m reminded of this as we publish this summer issue of Forum dedicated to the theme of mentorship. It’s an occasion to reflect on our Society members who have shared their wisdom and skills, an important way to renew and expand humanity’s bank of talent and knowledge.
Please know that while we’re gratified by the new coat of paint that graces our office, our Society leadership and staff have been laser-focused in recent months on renewal at a much deeper level. We’re continuing to implement new technology to better track and serve our members, and we’ve realigned resources to strengthen support for our chapters. We’re also rolling out a new strategic plan to sustain and grow Phi Kappa Phi for the future.
I’m privileged to be a part of that effort, and I encourage you to be a part of it, too. Your ideas and suggestions for Phi Kappa Phi are always welcome. Feel free to reach me with your feedback at bnewcomer@phikappaphi.org.
Please consider getting involved as a Phi Kappa Phi volunteer at the chapter level. Our chapters are the lifeblood of Phi Kappa Phi, and service through your local chapter can be very rewarding.
Last, but not least, let me invite you to consider a financial contribution to Phi Kappa Phi. Currently, Phi Kappa Phi gives more than $1.3 million in awards and grants to deserving scholars. Your contributions help make that possible. I’m grateful to the donors who have already deepened their engagement with the Society through our new Benefactor giving program.

The progress we’re making is a collective effort. Thanks to all of you for being part of the team.
